Based in Geneva, Switzerland, Scipio S.A. is a trading company that specializes in the physical movement of soft commodities throughout Sub-Saharan Africa. Managing Director, Mark Daniels, previously worked at Glencore in London and Johannesburg before founding Mark Daniels Ltd. in January 2000. In 2010, Mark opened the new business – Scipio S.A. – in Geneva, Switzerland. The company is a Category A member of the Grain and Feed Trade Association (GAFTA).

The company name was inspired by Publius Cornelius Scipio Africanus, also known as Scipio the African and Scipio the Great. He was a Roman general and later consul and is considered to be one of Rome’s greatest generals. Skillful alike in strategy and in tactics, he never lost a battle and had the faculty of inspiring his soldiers with confidence.
